Laura Lindsay, First Lady of Daytime TV in Alberta

This piece is written for ECAMP (Edmonton City as Museum Project), in their latest series about work. Laura Lindsay, mother of five (including Edmonton music star Tommy Banks), had her own daytime TV show for fourteen years. Also, view other Edmonton history pieces by Katherine Koller on ECAMP.

In 1963, while Laura appeared on Channel 3, her son Tommy Banks had his own show, Somewhere There’s Music and later, Keynotes, on Channel 5. Edmonton Journal, January 3, 1963 (12).

At the K-Days Exhibition in July 2025, ECAMP prepared pop-up exhibit that featured five recent pieces about labour and work, including “First Lady of Daytime TV, Laura Lindsay” by Katherine Koller. A postcard was also distributed with a downloadable QR code.
