“Image Drop” in Please Don’t Interrupt

“Image Drop,” creative nonfiction by Katherine Koller, is included in Please Don’t Interrupt, an anthology edited by Rona Altrows and Uchechukwu Peter Umezurike. Published by Griots Lounge, Please Don’t Interrupt, in the words of Rona and Uche, contains “seven sections, each of which focuses on a different aspect of interruption”: Kin, Migration, Mindwalks, Body Checks, Trauma and Retrieval, Human and Non, and Rebuilding. “Image Drop” is from the last section. An excerpt is below:

I take not a linear path, but a spiral one. Straight-line point-to-point thinking is direct, but more vulnerable to interruption, like a stop sign or a flat tire. I try spiral thinking, a feminine and artistic form of thought, arising from creative and critical tension, circling and layering and sometimes magical, asking, “what if.” I picture the generative double-helix of DNA. Spiral thinking is elastic and easily circles back to another point of view, improvises and promotes problem-solving, creation, survival. Gently, I tug on a tendril.
